EDWARD Timpson is taking on his 18th London Marathon.

The MP for Eddisbury will run the 26.2-mile course around the capital in memory of his mother, Alex Timpson MBE.

Alex was treated for cancer at The Christie Hospital before her death in January 2016, aged 69.

A respected children’s campaigner, she fostered 90 children and adopted two of Edward’s brothers.

She was also awarded a Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2006 in recognition of her work/

Edward said: “I’m delighted to be able to run for The Christie charity again, and I hope my now 50-year-old legs hold out!

“The care given, and compassion shown, to my mother Alex and our family - by all the staff and volunteers at The Christie - made a massive difference during the many months of treatment of her cancer.

“Every pound raised will help them continue to do so for others needing their help and support.”

He will join around 50,000 other runners taking on the course that passes landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge and Canary Wharf.

Over the years he has raised more than £50,000 for various local causes and charities.

This year he has chosen to direct his fundraising efforts towards The Christie Charity.

Lindsey Farthing, sporting events manager from The Christie Charity, said: “We’re so grateful that Edward is fundraising for The Christie Charity, and what a fitting way to celebrate the memory of his mum, Alex.

“We will be in London on 21st April to cheer him along - together with our other runners - and we wish him the very best of luck!”
