A LADIES’ night will help raise money to rebuild a children’s hospital in Ukraine.

Hartford resident Nataliya Monastyretska is organising a fundraiser for the hospital in her hometown of Kherson.

The hospital has been bombed and shelled, as well as suffering from flooding when the nearby Kakhovka Dam was destroyed in June 2023.

Despite these conditions, medical staff continue to try and serve the community of Kherson but need support.

As such, Nataliya has planned a Ladies Evening at Davenham Methodist Church complete with massages, raffles, pampering and a fashion show.

“People living in Kherson have suffered considerably during the conflict,” said Nataliya.

“The children's hospital has been bombed and shelled several times in the past two years, as well as suffering from the flooding when the occupiers blew the nearby Kakhovka Dam.

“The staff, however, continue heroically to try to serve the local community despite the desperate conditions and continuous shelling.

“We need to help them to help the local community as much as we can.”

Since Russia invaded Ukraine two years ago, thousands of people have been forced to flee the country.

Around 40 Ukrainians now find themselves calling Northwich their home, including Nataliya’s family, who have come to live with her and her husband Brian Read in Hartford.

Nataliya met Brian 20 years ago when his company opened a Mothercare franchise in Kyiv and she worked for the shopfitters.

Her sister Hanna and nieces Viktoria and Anastasia arrived early on in the conflict with the help of Weaver Vale MP Mike Amesbury.

Nataliya’s mother Lyudmila, cousin Viktoria and her children Arina and Mykola have also come to Northwich.

Thanking the community for welcoming her family and friends, Nataliya said: “It’s just a huge thank you to the community for being so supportive of Ukrainians.

“I don’t think it’s always easy to embrace people from other countries, but everyone has been great. It’s amazing.”

Tickets for the Ladies Evening, starting at 5pm on Saturday (March 23), cost £10 per person.
