SIX people were taken to hospital following a serious crash on the motorway.
The collision, involving five vehicles, occurred on the M6 southbound yesterday evening, Saturday.
Four fire engines from Middlewich, Sandbach, Crewe and Lymm fire stations rushed to the motorway.
The incident occurred between junctions 18, for Holmes Chapel and Middlewich, and 17 for Sandbach at around 8.50pm.
The southbound carriageway was closed in the aftermath of the crash, with the motorway reopening at around 11.40pm.
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews were called to the scene of a five-vehicle collision.
“Using specialist cutting equipment and rescue techniques, they released two casualties who were trapped.
“In total, six people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
“All four lanes of the motorway were closed for a time while emergency services dealt with the incident.
“Fire engines were in attendance for around one hour and 40 minutes.”
