FIVE more people have been arrested in connection with a stabbing in Winsford.

Cheshire Police are renewing an appeal for information following a serious assault at an address on Wharton Gardens in January.

A 20-year-old man suffered stab wounds, resulting in the arrest of a 16-year-old boy and a 31-year-old woman.

Since then, five more people have been arrested, including a 17-year-old boy and four men, aged 19, 19, 20 and 22.

Detective Constable Kelly Mitchell, of Northwich CID, said: “I’d like to reassure the residents that this is believed to be an isolated incident and we're committed to doing all we can to establish exactly what took place.

“We’ve already spoken to a number of witnesses as part of our investigation, and I would like to thank the local community for the support provided.

“As part of ongoing enquiries, we’re also keen to speak to anyone who helped the victim with his injuries prior to the arrival of police and paramedics.”

Police were called to Wharton Gardens at around 5.10pm on Sunday (January 14).

Upon arrival, officers found a 20-year-old man with stab wounds.

He was taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.

All seven of the people who have been arrested in connection with this incident are from Winsford and have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Cheshire Police are hoping to hear from anyone who helped the victim prior to the arrival of the emergency services.

DC Mitchell said: “I’d urge anyone with any information, no matter how small, to contact the team here at Northwich, or alternatively if you don’t want to speak to an officer, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
