DRAMATIC photos have shown the damage caused by a car fire.

Traffic was brought to a halt in Northwich on Tuesday (February 20) as police shut Chester Way and Venables Road.

The closure was put into place after a car went up in flames near the Lidl supermarket shortly before 11am.

Photos and videos taken by a passer-by have shown how the once red vehicle had been nearly completely stripped of its paint, with the front of the car in tatters.

Fortunately, no-one was injured as a result of the blaze.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “A saloon car was heavily involved in fire.

“A firefighter in breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze and police closed the road while the incident was being dealt with.

“No casualties were reported.”

CFRS has stated there are no plans to investigate the fire further.
