THERE were 221 babies born at Leighton Hospital in January 2024 – did you welcome a new arrival?

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust collates all the baby-related data every month detailing how many babies are born – boys and girls – whether there are any sets of twins or triplets and how babies are delivered.

There are stats for the number of babies born on their due date, before their due date and after their due date as well as the how many new arrivals experienced skin to skin at birth or were breast fed within 48 hours.

There were 221 babies born at Leighton Hospital last month – 53 per cent were girls and 47 per cent were boys.

There were three sets of twins and 87 per cent of babies experienced skin to skin straight after being born with 68.1 per cent being breast fed within 48 hours.

Four babies arrived on their due date, 142 were born before their due date and 75 were late - 42 per cent were induced.

Some 1.8 per cent were home births and 5.8 per cent were water births with 86 per cent of babies delivered on the labour ward or in theatre and 12.2 per cent were on the midwife led unit.

Vaginal births accounted for 51.2 per cent with 17.2 per cent elective caesarean sections and 22.6 per cent emergency caesarean sections.

Some 4.5 per cent were forceps births and 4.5 per cent were ventouse deliveries.
