A HOSPITAL charity has set itself a £100,000 target to support end-of-life care.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity has launched a new fundraiser which will help to provide better environments for patients coming to the end of their lives.

The registered NHS charity manages all donations and fundraising for the Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) and Cheshire Central Integrated Care Partnership.

Liz Fullerton, nurse consultant within the Palliative Care Team, said: “Supporting patients who are at the end of their lives is an incredibly important part of the care provided in hospital.

“Important not just for patients but for their families and loved ones too.

“We are so pleased to be working with the Mid Cheshire Hospital Charity whilst they support clinical teams to further improve the way patients and their loved ones spend their last days together.”

The launch of the appeal coincides with the introduction of the SWAN model of End of Life and Bereavement Care which has been adopted by MCHFT, designed to ensure everyone being cared for at the end of their life has the support and information they need.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity is planning to spend money raised on a range of projects, including the creation of a new calming outside space where people visiting loved ones can get some fresh air.

They are also looking to buy more sleeper chairs, which cost around £1,5000 each, and improve drink-making facilities.

The appeal will also fund smaller items, such as comfort packs.

These packs, which cost around £5, will include things such as dental kits, deodorant wipes and body lotion for loved ones who have had to come to hospital in an emergency.

Meanwhile, a donation of £15 could fund a memory box containing a range of ways to capture special moments.

Emma Robertson, head of the charity, said: “One of the charity’s key aims is to improve experience for patients and their loved ones over and above what the NHS can provide, and we know this appeal will make a huge difference to many local people at a time when they need it most.

“Some of our plans need large sums of money to make happen, but we can also quickly make small, important changes as soon as money starts coming in.2

The charity has several fundraising events to support the appeal planned for 2024 including All Our Hearts Day on Valentine’s Day, the Born Survivor physical challenge in April and a charity Golf Day in June.
