AN INVESTIGATION is underway following a fire in Winsford.

A disused building on High Street caught fire on Thursday evening (January 11).

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the scene shortly before 7pm amid reports that there may have been someone inside the building.

However, three engines attended, one each from the Winsford, Northwich and Holmes Chapel stations, and everyone was accounted, with an investigation into the cause of the blaze now underway.

A CFRS spokesperson said: “Crews were deployed following a report of a fire in a disused building.

“Wearing breathing apparatus, they rapidly deployed a hose reel jet.

“Firefighters gained access to the building and a comprehensive search was carried out, following reports that there may have been someone inside.

“No one was found, and everyone on scene was accounted for.

“A thermal imaging camera was used to monitor temperatures around the building.

“Crews were in attendance for around one and a half hours.

“An investigation into the cause of the fire is being carried out.”

Your Local Winsford, a neighbouring convenience store, had to shut early as a result of the fire.

A staff member said: “A small fire was started in the building next door to our shop.

“Fortunately the fire brigade was there immediately and put it out so there was no harm to anyone or the adjoining buildings.”
