TWO trapped people had to be helped free of their vehicles after a two-car crash this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Holmes Chapel Road in Sproston shortly before 1pm following the collision.

Paramedics assisted two occupants getting out of their vehicles while fire crews from Middlewich and Northwich made the scene safe.

Following the rescue, the incident passed to Cheshire Police.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Emergency services were called to a collision involving two cars.

"Two casualties, who were both trapped, were able to remove themselves from their vehicles with the assistance of paramedics.

"Firefighters made both vehicles safe and used absorbent mats on the road where oil had been leaking.

"The incident was handed over to Cheshire Police officers."

A police spokeswoman said: "At around 12.45pm today, Friday, December 29, police were called to reports of a collision on Holmes Chapel Road, Sproston.

"Emergency services attended and found a grey Hyundai Tucson had collided with a red Ford Fiesta.

"Both drivers sustained minor injuries and were taken to Leighton Hospital for further checks."
