I’M dreaming of a white Christmas.

Yes it’s what we’re all hoping for when we wake up on December 25, a winter wonderland on our doorstep.

Despite what all the songs and movies would have you believe, however, it very rarely seems to snow on Christmas Day itself.

Unfortunately that doesn’t look set to change this year, with the Met Office currently predicting temperatures as high as 11 degrees on Monday in Mid Cheshire.

There is a possibility we may see something falling from the sky though, with a 10 to 40 per cent chance of rain throughout the day.

While this forecast is rather rather dissapointing, it is still expected to be a white Christmas by the Met Office's definition, which is that a single snowflake falls on December 25.

However, unless you live in the far north of Scotland don't expect to see any snow as you unwrap your presents.

Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Dave Hayter said: “It’ll be a particularly wet weekend in the north and west, with breezy conditions for many.

“While those further south will generally be drier, some sporadic showers could spread into the southwest at times, as well as some more persistent rain for Wales on Sunday.

“Christmas Day will likely see a continuation of unsettled, mainly showery, weather in the northwest, including Northern Ireland.

“While the day may start damp in southern and central areas, that rain should clear into the English Channel through the evening.”

Looking ahead to Boxing Day in Mid Cheshire, temperatures are expected to drop slightly, with highs of around eight degrees.
