AS 2023 draws to a close and we begin 2024, our MPs are looking ahead to what will be 'another busy year'.

In what will likely be his last year representing residents in Northwich, Mike Amesbury has pledged to continue campaigning for more investment in the area.

Meanwhile Esther McVey added she will be working to ensure the money saved from HS2 will be spent on better transport across Cheshire and the North West.

Weaver Vale MP Mr Amesbury said: "New Year is a time for renewal and hope for the future.

"There have been deeply depressing conflicts abroad this year. While closer to home, many people continue to struggle because of the cost-of-living crisis.

"We desperately need better news soon from Ukraine and the Middle East. To see the suffering of civilians on our TV screens from all sides, including young children, is heart-breaking.

"This year I will continue to campaign for the ‘have nots’ in our community and for more investment in Northwich as a whole.

"Sadly, this is likely to be my last New Year message as your Member of Parliament.

"It’s probable there will be a general election in 2024 and I’ve been selected as Labour candidate for the new Runcorn & Helsby seat following boundary changes.

"For the last time, may I wish Northwich & Winsford Guardian readers and their families a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year."

Tatton MP Ms McVey said: "Looking ahead it will be another busy year in the constituency.

"I will continue daily with casework, helping people on any issue they need my assistance with.

"Last year 8,000 new pieces of casework were opened bringing the total to 45,000 since I became your MP in addition to the 250,000 emails.

"On top of that, I’ll be ensuring the majority of the land safeguarded for HS2 will be released, which will be a relief to all the constituents affected – and the money saved from HS2 being spent on better transport right across the north.

"And after getting millions of pounds of more money for potholes in our local area I will continue to push the local councils to use it – and get filling the potholes and resurfacing our roads.

"In Marbury I’ll be working to get a new Winnington Bridge after the initial incomplete bid put together by Cheshire West and Chester for government funding failed.

"May I wish you all a very happy and healthy New Year and if I can help you in anyway with any issue please call the office on 01625 529922 or email me at officeofesthermcveymp@parliament.uk."
