SMALL Business Saturday takes place this weekend.

Christmas shoppers up and down the country are being urged to support their local market traders this weekend.

Cheshire West and Chester is home to several such venues, including markets in Northwich, Chester, and Ellesmere Port and Winsford.

Councillor Nathan Pardoe represents Winsford Wharton and also serves as cabinet member for inclusive economy, regeneration and digital transformation.

He said: “Small Business Saturday is a great campaign to remind all of us how many exciting and hard-working small businesses there are across our borough.

“When you are out this Saturday, how many can you visit and how many new ones can you find?

“Our markets are the ideal way for new business ideas to be tested, our markets team can help, whether you are looking for a permanent stall or a pop up to test your new product.”

Small Business Saturday is now in its 11th year and aims to encourage residents to shop local and support businesses in their community.

It takes place on the first Saturday in December each year.

The market in Winsford is open from 9am to 4pm every Monday, Thursday and Saturday, while Northwich opens at the same times on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Chester’s new award-winning market is open 8am to 10pm Tuesday through Saturday, opening 10am to 9pm on Sunday and closed on Monday.

Meanwhile, Ellesmere Port Market will be open seven days a week in the lead up to Christmas, with a planning application being submitted this month to make some major improvements.

It will also be welcoming a new store in the next week, Kerala Delight.

Owner of the stall specialising in Indian cuisine, Bilji Beno, said: “Our decision to set up shop here was driven by the warm and welcoming community that defines this town.

“We saw an opportunity to bring something unique to Ellesmere Port Market, an authentic taste of India that resonates with the diverse and discerning palates of the locals.”
