THE M6 has been closed going southbound after a crash involving multiple vehicles.
The motorway is closed approaching rush hour between junction 21 at Croft and 20 at Lymm following 'a collision involving multiple vehicles'.
Whilst lane four has been released, traffic continues to build, with expected delays of about 45 minutes. Drivers are being asked to try and take alternative routes where possible.
Emergency services are in attendance; North West Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment regarding the incident.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "At 3.45pm on Thursday 26 October police were called to a three-car collision on the M6 between junctions 21 and 20."
"Injuries are believed to be minor. One person is being assessed.
Three lanes are currently closed due to debris and oil."
According to a traffic monitoring system INRIX, there is also traffic building on the other side of the carriageway, so expect delays heading in both directions.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue service have said firefighters are also on the scene.
Firefighters have isolated the batteries on two petrol cars and are working on the battery of an electric car.
Highways are in the process of clearing lane three so it can be reopened.
