A MIDDLEWICH woman has won a lottery rollover jackpot.

Laura Wakeling was in disbelief when she received a phone call informing her she had won St Luke’s Hospice’s lottery rollover draw.

The 29-year-old has bagged herself £5,000 and it couldn’t have come at a better time, as she and her boyfriend are in the process of buying their first house together, in Winsford.

She said: “I just can’t believe I’ve won!

“I wasn’t expecting it at all, I’m not usually a lucky person.

“The money will go towards our first home together so it will be a huge help. We’re hoping to be in before Christmas!”

Laura has supported St Luke’s ever since her grandmother, Carole Gillett, was cared for by the inpatient unit in Winsford eight years ago.

Alongside playing the lottery, Laura has done an abseil and zipline challenge to raise money for the hospice.

She also gives up her time as a first aider with St John Ambulance at St Luke’s events including the Midnight Walk and Colour Rush.

Laura said: “My nana was only in St Luke’s for a very short time, but for those three days she was comfortable, her pain was managed, the nurses were so supportive and she passed away very peacefully in their care.

“She was only 58 and I was very close to her so I can never thank St Luke’s enough for everything they did. When I told my grandad I’d won the lottery he said ‘that’s your present from nana’.

“I didn’t join the lottery to win, I pay each month so that the care my nana received can be given to someone else.

“£4 isn’t a lot – I don’t even notice it coming out of my account – but it goes a long way for the hospice!”

The lottery has grown to become St Luke’s biggest single source of income and has raised more than £13 million towards patient care since its launch.

St Luke’s lottery manager Nicola Mainwaring said: “Congratulations to Laura. We wish her all the very best with her house purchase and we thank her for her ongoing support of the Hospice.

“The lottery really is one of the easiest ways to support St Luke’s and still costs just £1 a week – the same as it did when it started nearly 30 years ago!

“The draw offers players the chance to win 35 cash prizes each week, including a £1,000 guaranteed jackpot and a rollover of up to £5,000 – but you’ve got to be in it to win it. Why not sign up today for your chance to win big like Laura.”
