I’m back from the Labour conference in Liverpool as my party continues to flesh out its policies ahead of the next general election.

And the battlelines along which the election will be fought are becoming clearer.

With a track record of failure, the Tories are repackaging Rishi Sunak as the ‘change’ candidate despite having been in power 13 years.

Labour agrees change is desperately needed to fix ‘Broken Britain’ but only our party can deliver that change for residents in Northwich and beyond.

We’ve outlined five key missions as the backbone of Labour’s election manifesto.

The first is to drive economic growth in every part of the country. A key element is to build 1.5 million homes and with the right infrastructure in place. For example, plans for new housing at the old Winnington Works site can only be unlocked with a new Winnington road bridge.

Labour has also developed an industrial strategy to support British manufacturing, such as the likes of Tata Chemicals, and other businesses involved with the transition to Net Zero.

As part of our second mission –  backing a clean power revolution – we would set up publicly-owned GB Energy to invest in solar, wind and tidal to create good jobs, cut bills and deliver energy independence for our country.

Labour’s third mission is to ‘Get the NHS back on its feet’. We know how difficult it is to see a GP or get treatment given record waiting lists.  Announcements at conference included a plan to deliver 2m more hospital appointments plus 700,000 extra dental appointments.

Locally, Team Labour has already helped secure investment in Victoria Infirmary Northwich and we need to ensure the Leighton Hospital rebuild happens on time given concerns around its crumbling concrete structure.

Under the heading of ‘Take Back Our Streets’, Labour’s fourth mission is about making Britain safer by rebuilding neighbourhood policing through recruiting 13,000 new police officers and PCSOs.

Our fifth mission is ‘Break down opportunities’ so every child has the same chance to succeed no matter what their background or where they live. For example, we’d address the recruitment and retention crisis in schools by hiring 6,500 new teachers, paid for by ending tax breaks for private schools.

Labour’s five missions will improve the lives of working people. Our plans are fully funded. It’s time to get Britain’s future back.
