PUBS and breweries are in celebration mode following the release of the Good Beer Guide 2024.

The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) recently published the latest edition of their guide which highlights the pubs serving the best pints around the country.

Among them are 71 pubs in Cheshire, as well as 24 breweries based in the county.

Representing Northwich is Salty Dog, which has been included in the guide every year since it opened in 2017.

Owner Chris Mundie said: “It's always great to be added to the CAMRA Good Beer Guide, especially this year as we are now the only pub in Northwich Town Centre to feature, which I think is an indication of the difficulties facing the industry as a whole.

“In terms of all things Salty Dog all the credit goes to Alex Pop and Dom Ogden who run the pub, Alex curates the beers and picks what goes on and Dom takes care of the cellar management side of things, between them they run a great team of staff which is what really makes the whole thing work."

Moving out of the town centre, The Lion in Moulton has made the guide for the tenth year running.

Landlord Andy Jones said: “We are delighted and extremely proud that we are celebrating our tenth consecutive year in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide!

“We'd like to thank all of our amazing customers, staff and the local CAMRA branch for making it possible.

“It's been a heck of a ride, however myself and my wife, Doll, have loved every minute of it!”

Davenham Cricket Club has also been included.

“The bar team headed up by Colin Jaffray have worked hard to provide great tasting and interesting beers all year,” said development manager Jo Garner.

“With our very popular annual beer festival we can also support and promote as many breweries as possible. Thanks to everyone who makes the club a fun and friendly place to be.”

It’s not just pubs that feature in the guide with Northwich-based Hush Brewing Co. also making the cut.

Hush is owned by Chris Birtwistle and Simon Appleton who run the brewery alongside their fulltime jobs.

Chris said: “We are super lucky to be supported by our family and many of our friends who muck in on our bar at open events and even cleaning casks.

“It’s good for us to be included as a young brewery.  It’s great to be recognised for making good beers. "

Chris added: “We both have a passion for good beers and we push ourselves to make the best beer we can.

"We think that drive and that we do this as a passion project are what makes our beers special along with the great group of people who support us and seek out our beers.

"We believe that beer is a social thing. Having a pint with your friends in a social setting is something we love which is why celebrating great breweries and great pubs together is so important!"
