FAMILIES are being invited to a fun-filled event which will give them a glimpse into the work firefighters do.

Winsford Fire Station is holding its open day this weekend on Saturday, September 23, from 11am until 3pm.

Activities taking place at the Sadler Road station house include face painting, stalls, games, wall climbing and fire rescue demonstrations.

Included in the demonstrations will be a road traffic collision demonstration, where firefighters will show visitors how they extricate people who might be trapped in a vehicle following a crash.

The station's open day will also offer a designated ‘quiet hour’ between 10am and 11am to create a ‘calmer’ environment for those with sensory sensitivities, learning disabilities, ADHD or autism.

During this time, noise will be reduced, and lighting will be limited to make for a more relaxing experience.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman at Winsford Fire Station said: “It is a great opportunity for people to come and learn more about the service and the work we do."

Northwich Fire Station will be holding a similar event on September 30.
