WILKO is set to shut its first shops this week after falling into administration.

Among the 52 branches set to close for good is the Winsford branch, on Dingle walk.

Administrators from PwC said last week that the closures will result in 1,016 redundancies.

This comes as insolvency experts continue to seek a deal to save as many of the 90-year-old retailers shops as possible.

They were dealt a blow today (September 11) after HMW owner Doug Putman confirmed he had failed in a bid to buy around 200 stores.

As such, thousands of jobs at Wilko’s remaining shops, warehouses and head office remain in the balance.
