THE head teacher at Weaverham High School has spoken of her pride for 2023's year 11 cohort which 'held their own' against the backdrop of a national reduction in the number pupils achieving the highest grades.

Students attended the school on Thursday (August 24) to collect their GCSE results - the culmination of five years' hard work.

Nationally, efforts have been made in England to return grading to pre-pandemic levels.

Head teacher Clare Morgan said: "We are so proud of the class of ’23.

"It has been a pleasure to watch them grow over the past five years. So many have achieved incredible results.

"Almost half of our year 11s have gained at least one of the highest grades and one fifth gained at least one grade 9.

"This has been a cohort of young people who have set themselves a clear path for the futures they have ahead of them.

"These exciting plans are possible because of the foundations that have been laid as part of their Weaverham experience.

"Our young people leave us not only with the academic qualifications to secure their chosen destination, but with admirable personal qualities and leadership skills, something of which we are immensely proud.

"It has been an honour to be a part of their journey of self-discovery and now, their academic success.

"Thanks must also go to Weaverham’s dedicated and passionate staff who have worked tirelessly supporting our students.

"Without doubt, the support students have received from those around them as been instrumental - a heartfelt thank you to all of our year 11 parents.

"Days like Thursday are happy occasions as we celebrate a successful partnership between home and school. Everyone associated with the school can feel proud of what has been achieved.

"We wish all of our students the very best in their next steps of education, safe in the knowledge that they have developed the character and skills needed to excel, wherever their journey takes them."

For a third consecutive year Weaverham celebrates excellence across all areas of the curriculum with pupils achieving grade 9s in every single faculty.

Here are some extraordinary examples of pupils, whose hard work and effort has manifested amazing results.

Lottie Nelm gained nine 9s; Mollie Stamper Clarke and Amelia Partridge both secured eight 9s and one 8; Holly Wilson achieved seven 9s and two 8s; while George Dunn and Finlay Cameron received six 9s, nine 8s and three 7s between them.
