PHOTOS have been released of the 'amazing progress' already made on Northwich’s new Vickersway skatepark.

Published on Northwich Town Council’s twitter page, they show progress well underway with impressive groundworks nearing completion, and specially designed wooden moulds to take huge volumes of concrete already in place.

Specialist contractors, Wheelspace, have been on site since July 18, first installing perimeter fencing and getting to work removing the old skatepark’s metal ramps, which closed for good on June 25.

Northwich Town Council worked all-out to secure the required £180,000 funding from various sources, including £100,000 from an FCC Communities Foundation grant, and £30,000 from Rudheath and Witton Together.

Though there's no official opening date as yet, the town council expects the work to take about another six weeks.

Northwich town mayor, Cllr Jane Thomas, says she’s ‘amazed’ with the rate of progress so far.

“I have visited site a few times now to check on progress and I’ve been amazed how quickly the contractors are working”, she said.

“By working with local user groups and the community, I believe we will have one of the best skateparks in the area for our residents.

“I am really looking forward to the opening jam and seeing the facility used.

“Stay tuned to our social media channels for updates.”

The town council has already released computer generated images of what the new skatepark will look like, but today’s pictures are the first to be released of the new facility itself.

The council is planning to celebrate the opening with a ‘skate jam’, which is a mini skating festival and competition rolled into one, when the new park is ready to go.

Town clerk, Chris Shaw, said: “We are so excited to see the work on the skatepark progressing well.

We’re really looking forward to the first concrete pour as we will then really see the shape and the scale of the park. We’re crossing our fingers for good weather.

“This new skatepark is for everyone and we want it to be as inclusive as possible.

"From experienced skaters to beginners, we want everyone to enjoy this new facility for Northwich.”
