A MAN who strangled and threatened to kill his ex-partner after reacting badly to their break-up has been jailed.

Following the end of their relationship, Kyle Taylor, of Mayfield Road, Northwich, repeatedly contacted his ex every day.

Then, on November 21 last year, the 32-year-old turned up at his victim's Northwich home at 5.30am.

After entering her flat, Taylor was told to collect his things and leave but he became verbally aggressive before grabbing and squeezing his victim's neck, leaving her unable to breathe.

Taylor, formerly of Winsford, also pushed his ex-partner onto a bed and applied pressure to her neck from behind before crushing her under his body weight.

He then whispered 'you're going to die today' several times, leaving the victim fearing for her life.

When the victim tried to get her phone out to call for help, Taylor snatched it from her and tried to bend it in half, continuing to tell her he would kill her and himself.

Throughout the day-long ordeal, Taylor kept his ex's phone and monitored her use of it, but, at 9.30pm, she managed to text her friends who alerted the police.

Cheshire Police officers arrived 10 minutes later to find Taylor running out of the door and into the hallway.

He was detained and arrested, before being charged with intentional strangulation and making threats to kill.

After pleading guilty to the charges on May 9, Taylor returned to Chester Crown Court on Thursday, July 27, where he was sentenced.

Taylor was jailed for 27 months over the intentional strangulation charge, while the charge of making threats to kill was left to lie on file.
