CONCERNS have been raised after flash floods occurred in several Winsford roads following heavy downpours.
During yesterday (July 11) afternoon's heavy rain, drains in Wharton Gardens were overwhelmed, leaving the road underwater.
The issues were reported to United Utilities and the Weaver Vale Housing Trust, which manages some of the properties in the area.
A team from the water company is being sent out today to investigate the problem.
The water had subsided by this morning, but resident Sarah Bugler is worried about it happening again.
She said: "It's very concerning as our front gardens also flood. Our back gardens slope down to our back doors so the flood gets higher during a storm we won't be able to stop the water coming in.
"There's an issue with the drains which has been exacerbated by the downpours we've been having.
"But there's clearly a much bigger issue at play. I live right by these drains and I've literally watched workmen last year pour tarmac over an obvious leak and leave.
"United Utilities have sent water tankers here to pump it out in the day too. They know there's an issue that's more than flash flooding.
"I've asked United Utilities to bring sandbags for our houses at risk."
A United Utilities spokeswoman said: "We have received reports of flooding in Wharton Gardens following the recent heavy downpours.
"A team will attend to investigate as soon as possible."
A spokeswoman for the Weaver Vale Housing Trust said: "The nature of the heavy rainfall yesterday afternoon meant the gullies on the roads became blocked and were unable to drain the large volume of rain as quickly as they normally would.
"We would advise local residents to contact United Utilities, who are responsible for road gully maintenance, if this type of flooding occurs again.
"Our staff have attended site this morning to speak to residents and check properties.
"We can confirm that the flooding has subsided, and the gullies are now clear."
