RESIDENTS are once again being advised to be wary of thunder and lightning storms and ‘torrential downpours’ today, Monday.
It comes after the Met Office issued another yellow weather warning for thunderstorms, following similar alerts over the weekend.
This latest weather warning came into force from midday today, and it will remain in place through to 9pm this evening.
This one carries the service’s ‘danger to life’ warning due to ‘possible fast-flowing or deep floodwater’.
Forecasters say flooding of homes and businesses could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.
Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures, while some communities might become cut off if roads flood.
Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
Moreover, power cuts might occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.
A Met Office spokesman said: “Thunderstorms and torrential downpours are expected to break out across central England and Wales during Monday.
“These will be slow moving and intense, leading to some large accumulations, with in excess of 30mm in an hour for some locations, and the potential for 60mm to 80mm or more in a few hours where thunderstorms align for a time.
“Frequent lightning and hail are likely to be additional hazards.”
