Next up was roast dinners and ten delicious Sunday bests in Mid Cheshire made the shortlist for Best for Roast Dinner 2023 with The Red Lion in Little Budworth beating off some tough competition and taking the coveted title.

Andrew Cartwright and his wife Catherine took over at the pumps exactly one year ago this week and have clearly made a good first impression with customers and locals.

The Red Lion Inn on Vicarage Lane offers lunch and dinner every day with four rooms for guests to stay overnight.

Andrew said: “We decided to take on the pub during the Covid-19 pandemic and it’s a new venture for us.

“I’ve been a manager at supermarkets for decades and Catherine is a lawyer but we’re both passionate about food and hospitality and creating the best experience for our customers.

“We’re a small pub with home cooked food prepared by an amazing chef and brilliant team of employees.

“We’re all in this together and feel very strongly about the pub and making the business a success.”

The award-winning roast dinners include beef, lamb or nut roast with traditional roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and gravy – all homemade.

In season, they also offer turkey and the products are locally sourced where possible with the beef and lamb coming from Littler’s Butchers in Sandiway.

One nomination simply said The Red Lion is “without doubt the best place for Sunday lunch”.

Andrew said: “It was a huge honour to make the shortlist for Mid Cheshire’s Best for Roast Dinner 2023 given the large number of fantastic pubs serving great Sunday roasts in the area.

“We were over the moon to actually win!

“We have wonderful customers and locals and we feel very lucky to have such a great client base in this lovely little village.”
