The salon is the first winner in our Best of 2023 competition, where each week we search for the best Mid Cheshire has to offer in different categories.

We started with Best for Hair and we were inundated with nominations for salons all over Mid Cheshire with clients and customers telling us who they thought should make the final shortlist.

Voting for Mid Cheshire’s Best for Pies is currently taking place and we’re also looking for nominations in our latest search - Best for Nails.

Ten top salons in Mid Cheshire made the shortlist for Best for Hair with Oliver Gibney Hairdressing in Barnton taking the coveted crown, just edging out Jack William Holland at Urban Sanctuary in Knutsford.

After starting an apprenticeship at the age of 16, Oliver has gone from strength to strength opening up his first salon when he was just 19.

His five-star rated salon on Runcorn Road specialises in colour and hair extensions and he has won numerous awards over the past 20 years.

Now, Oliver can add Mid Cheshire’s Best for Hair 2023 title to his collection.

Oliver said: “Our customers tagged us in the posts on social media and on the website when the competition was launched and they said some lovely things about us and the salon.

“Hearing we’d made the shortlist was a bit overwhelming and then to find out that we’ve won is just fantastic.

“We recently won Hair Extensions Salon of the Year at the English Hair and Beauty Awards so we’re really enjoying all our successes.”

Oliver runs a fun salon adorned with beautiful flowers and greenery where his clients feel at home and he calls it his living room as he’s at work more than he’s at home.

The 38-year-old is getting ready to open a second salon, this time on Langdale Way in Frodsham, and the shop front will be covered entirely with holographic reflective sequins.

Oliver said: “We’re currently refurbishing the salon in Frodsham but I can promise you that it will be full of glitz and glamour – floor to ceiling sequins!

“I’m looking forward to putting together a creative team at the new premises where we can build on the success of the Barnton salon.”

One happy customer said: “Ollie always goes above and beyond more than anyone else I know and he treats every customer as if they’re the most important person he’s seen that day.

“His salon is a safe, community space and there’s always a warm welcome.”
