WORLD Book Day gives kids (and big kids) a fantastic opportunity to dress up as their favourite literary characters.

And mid Cheshire did not disappoint.

We have been inundated with pictures of the weird and wonderful costumes on show at schools and nurseries across our part of the county.

From Gangsta Granny to comic book superheroes, there have been some fantastic pictures sent in.

Now, we've loved them all and you can see the full selection of pictures here.

But we have pulled out our favourite 12 outfits below. We look forward to seeing even more next year!

Our favourite 12 World Book Day outfits

In no particular order, our favourite costumes are:

Clark Kilty as Puss in Boots

The three-year-old, who attends Little Angels Nursery, loves everyone's favourite swashbuckling feline!

Oskar-James Smith as an Oompa Loompa

Oompa Loompa doompety do... Little Oskar-James, aged two, looks more like he attends Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory than Sunrise Nursery in Wharton!

Archie and Harper Holland as a Slytherin student with a Mandrake

We had many Harry Potter-themed pictures sent in, but none more original than Archie, aged seven, and eight-week-old Harper! Little Harper looks ready to unleash a deadly Mandrake cry!

Daniel Metcalf as Where's Wally

We had so many Where's Wally pictures sent in, it was hard to find five-year-old Moulton Primary School pupil Daniel, but then again, that's the aim right?

Rosie Roberts as Mary Poppins

We think seven-year-old Rosie, who attends Winnington Park Primary School, could give Julie Andrews and Emily Blunt a run for their money as everyone's favourite nanny!
