A CROWDFUNDING page has been set up to help make Northwich the ‘events capital of Cheshire’.

Visit Northwich has set up a fundraising appeal on Spacehiv - a platform where community projects can collect funds - to ensure the town’s catalogue of free events in 2023 can take place safely and successfully as the number of people attending them increases.

Upcoming events this year in Northwich include; Pina Colada Festival, Krazy Races, River Festival, Festival of Arts, Scooter Rally, What's On Guide and associated marketing and promotion of all events, Christmas activities and additional free activities throughout the summer.

The appeal explains: “In the main, the activities at these events are free and generally paid for by local businesses through Northwich BID, Northwich Town Council and councillors from Cheshire West and Chester.

“We need support to see these events continue into the future; with the popularity of the events in 2022, it has led us to increase the infrastructure required to ensure events can take place safely, with staffing, security stewards, medical support and public facilities having to increase with the number of participants attending.

“We also need support to ensure we can continue with the events that fill in the gaps between the larger events, things like the free crazy golf, dinosaur experiences, crafting workshops and Northwich Art Festival.”

So far, more than £22,000 has been pledged by 22 backers, of a total target of just under £39,000.

Chris Shaw from Northwich Town Council said: “We’re really excited about our Spacehive campaign, with such a generous pledge from Cheshire West Crowd, we know it’s going to support so many events delivered in Northwich this coming year.

“As they have grown in popularity, so have the costs for delivering the larger town wide events and a big part of our funding submission is to support the core infrastructure that goes around these.”

Adam Gerrard from Northwich BID added: “Northwich’s events have been getting better and better each year they’re held, and we have a fantastic line up for people to come along to this year, with all the events funded by this campaign free to attend.

“Our commitment as partners who deliver these events in Northwich (Northwich Town Council, Northwich BID, and Rotary in Northwich) is to ensure that there is something for everyone that provides a day out with plenty of free fun.

“We know times are tough for many people right now, so we’re keen that people only pledge to our campaign if they can spare it.”

The majority of events in Northwich are not delivered by one single organisation, but rather through a strong partnership between Northwich BID, Northwich Town Council and Rotary in Northwich.

Each organisation is committed to delivering ‘outstanding, world class events in Northwich’.
