AN ancient woodland on the edge of Winsford is appealing for donations to make the site fit for purpose.

Bluebell Wood CIC is located near Winsford Flashes and offers school visits, scout camps and toddler groups, as well as workshops and courses for the community.

Martin Tomlinson explained: “Bluebell Wood CIC is a seven-acre ancient woodland on the edge of Winsford.

“We are a community interest company, meaning all funds go towards subsidising courses, maintaining and improving the facility.

“A clearing by the stream ensures there is plenty to do for school visits, scout camps, toddler groups, and also pottery classes, bushcraft, foraging, art, music or simply to escape and relax.

“We have successfully hosted many workshops for various members of the community, but to ensure we can do so with minimum cost to others, we need funding to make the site truly fit for purpose.

“We have big plans for 2023, so we're looking for funding to ensure we can offer more courses and workshops, for more people, more of the year.”

Following a successful pitch to the Cheshire West Crowd, Bluebell Wood has so far been pledged £16,439, putting it more than halfway towards its fundraising target.

Its crowdfunding page can be found at spacehive.com/the-bluebell-wood-beginning.

Part of Bluebell Wood’s plans include a treebog (a composting toilet(, new car park surfacing, a woodland shelter and a covered space to enable workshops to continue in all conditions.

Martin added: “The task ahead is still huge.

“If we do not meet the full funding target by the end of February, we get nothing.

“We’re asking people to spread the word to help raise funds to ensure we are fully equipped to provide a whole host of experiences for young and old this year and for many years to come.

“We will continue to bang the drum and apply for grants and funds, so if you see or know of any, do get in touch.

“We are also keen to speak to volunteers who may want to help.

“From working the land, to tending to the Alpacas and Emus, or do you have a craft of skill and would love to run a workshop or course? We’re always open to ideas.”
