ALMOST two years after part of the roof collapsed at Northwich Railway Station, an investigation into the cause of the incident is yet to be concluded – and a Northwich MP says ‘something is amiss’.

No-one was injured during the shocking incident on May 18, 2021, which saw a huge pile of rubble cascade onto a platform at the station, as well as inside a waiting area.

The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has been conducting an independent investigation since then, which is still ongoing.

Weaver Vale MP Mike Amesbury says ‘there is clearly something amiss’ due to the investigation taking 20 months up until now.

Mr Amesbury said: “This was a very serious incident in which someone could easily have been killed or badly injured.

“Passengers on the platform at the time of the collapse were left severely traumatised.

“I’m keen to see Northwich Railway Station rebuilt in the very near future.

“But I’m also concerned about the health and safety of the travelling public, including my constituents.

“In June 2021, the ORR told me their investigation would take two-three months or over a year if the prosecution route was pursued.

“Well, it’s now 20 months later and still the inquiry has not concluded.

“There is clearly something amiss here.

“I will be writing to the ORR seeking an update on behalf of my constituents.”

Despite calls from the MP to make the station fully accessible, only the work to repair the damaged section will take place.
