Drivers are being warned of delays on the M6 southbound after a crash involving a lorry and a van.

Traffic officers have been dispatched to the scene of the accident, which occured around 12.50pm between junction 19, for Northwich and junction 18, for Middlewich. 

Highways officers are reporting there is an oil spillage as a result of the accident, and lane one is currently closed.

The vehicles are in the process of being recovered. 

A spokesperson for National Highways Northwwest said: "Lane one (of four) is closed on the M6 south between junction 19, Northwich and junction 18, Middlewich, due to a collision between a van and a lorry.

"There has also been an oil spillage as a result of this incident.

"Recovery is en route to scene.

"Please allow extra journey time if in the area."
