STEVE Wilkes believes the scene is set for a Christmas cracker between his Northwich Victoria side and Congleton Town.

Both teams will go into Boxing Day's contest at the U Lock It Stadium, kick-off 2pm, having been unbeaten in their last three outings.

Vics, who are fifth - one place and two points above Congleton in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division, will be aiming to build on Tuesday night's 4-1 home win against Irlam FC when Ryan Jackson, Ashley Dunn, Matty Birchall and Kuda Chingwaro hit the target.

"Congleton are going well and we are going well som let's hope we can get a good crowd on," said Vics manager Wilkes.

"We've had a lot of midweek Wednesday nigt matches where people don't come out, so we'd like to get a big crowd on for this one."

He felt his players showed some ring rust on Tuesday before really hitting their straps in the second half.

"I think the first half showed we hadn't played or trained for two weeks (because of the weather)," he said.

"However, I thought we created some really good chances in the firsthalf and their keeper made a couple of good saves.

"So we just said to the players to keep doing what they're doing and hopefully the goals would come.

"We decided we wanted to play a different- way in the second half and we did that to a treat.

"We were absolutely excellent in the second half, every single one of them.

"To win any game in this league 4-1 is a good result, expecially after they beat Wythenshawe Town (the then leaders) 3-1 at Wythenshawe Town a couple of weeks ago. So we knew it was going to be a tough game and it proved that.

"But in the second half we were excellent in the way we kept the ball and moved it from side to side, and a lot of one-twos on the edge of the box.

"We got our rewards."

Chingwaro, who came off the bench to score the fourth goal, added: "We'd been out of action for two-and-a-half weeks since the Prestwich game, when we played some very good football but the draw wasn't what we wanted.

"But we came back and got the three points and hopefully it's a very good start for the games to come.

"It's all good getting a goal personally, but the three points are what matters and doing it as a team and winning the way we did.

"I thought it was four great goals from the team and I thought it was an excellent performance."

After the visit of Congleton on Monday, Wilkes’ side also have a home game against Bury AFC on Friday, December 30, kick off 7.45pm.
