A NORTHWICH man who called a woman a ‘rat’ and a ‘tramp’ and embarked on four days of harassment against a man has had his trial date pushed back.

Matthew Watson, of Braemar Avenue, pleaded guilty to various offences at Chester Magistrates Court earlier this year, including harassment and sending menacing or obscene messages.

But he denied charges of assault and criminal damage and was set to appear for trial on November 30.

The case will now be heard next year.

On August 5, magistrates heard the 30-year-old made 26 calls to a man and sent a video to him using Instagram between March 12 and 15 earlier this year.

He pleaded guilty to harassment without violence for the four-day spree.

On March 12, in Northwich, Watson also sent a message that was ‘grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character’ on two occasions.

He pleaded guilty to both charges.

The message he sent on March 12 read: “Looks like the back room at your mum’s, so f***ing trampy.”

Another message sent the day after read: “People need realise what a rat she is, the whole family are tramps who rob people.”

Watson also appeared in court charged with common assault on the woman he insulted and causing criminal damage to her jacket in Station Road, Northwich, on March 14.

He denies both charges.

Watson’s trial will now take place on January 20, 2023.
