A burning car on the M6 near Warrington has forced emergency services to close several lanes.

Police have closed lanes 1 and 2 of the M6 southbound near Junction 20, Lymm, near Warrington.

Travellers are also warned that the incident is causing disruption to the sliproad from the M56 eastbound onto the M6 southbound.

North West Motorway Police said: "Due to a car fire, we currently have Lanes 1 and 2 closed, M6 Southbound from J20 Lymm.

"This also impacts on the on slip from M56 eastbound to M6 southbound.

"Once our colleagues Cheshire Fire Service have safely extinguished this vehicle we will be able to ease this restriction."
