An exhibition of local artists of all ages and abilities has so far received more than 250 entries, with more being added each day.

Visual Arts Cheshire’s new show opened earlier in November at its pop-up gallery in Barons Quay, Northwich.

The group have been asking local people to produce images for display, and there are only three rules: submissions must measure 20cm by 20cm; they must not be in a frame; and they must be purchasable for a maximum of £20.

It costs £2 to exhibit a picture, £1 of which will go to help Mid Cheshire Food Bank.

VAC committee member, Phil Carswell, said: “The exhibition is going really well. We received 170 canvasses on the first day and we now have more than 250, and they are still coming in.

“We had more than 200 people visiting us one day, with an average of around 50 people per day overall.

“We also have an exhibition from local artist Elsie Manning, in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support, and some stunning mosaics from a Davenham based group called Mosaicopia.

“Alongside this we have a regular slot called 'Artist of the Week' with a guest artist working on site on their current pieces, and a display of their other work.

“This weekend it is work from local artist, Jeff Davies, and on December 16 and 17, Jan Johnson from Mosaicopia.”

The 20x20 exhibition runs until Saturday, December 31, and submissions can be made at any point while its is running, as long as there is space available.

Phil added: “We want to get as many people in the community involved as possible."

“People don’t have to feel that they need to be particularly artistic - it’s just the images we want really. So long as it is 20cm x 20cm and can be put onto a piece of card, wood, or canvas without a frame, we will display it.

Chairman of Visual Arts Cheshire, Alan Carr, said: “The response from local people has been wonderful, with everyone commenting that it is so great to see this facility in Northwich."

The galley is open between 10.30am and 4pm on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
