CHILDREN at a Middlewich-based primary school have been learning to swim after hiring a swimming pool.

Cledford Primary School’s principal said learning to swim was especially important for pupils, given Middlewich has many canals and rivers.

The swimming pool spent two weeks at the George VI Avenue school and children in years three and six had lessons every day.

Chris Adlington, principal, said: “It’s so important that children learn to swim.

“It’s a skill that can not only help to keep us fit and healthy and improve mental health but could also save a life.”

He added: “In Middlewich we have so many canals and rivers so we’re never far away from water and the lifesaving skills children learn, such as performing a safe self-rescue are of paramount importance to us.”

The children at Cledford had a ‘splashing’ time and are looking forward to more swimming opportunities in the future.
