A 13-YEAR-OLD boy from Northwich has been released from police custody following reports of a girl, 12, being sexually assaulted.

Officers were dispatched to the Ashton Drive area of Frodsham at around 8.45pm on Saturday, November 12, and set up a cordon.

The victim was spoken to and is now being supported by specialist officers.

A teenage boy was arrested in connection with the incident and, after being questioned in custody, has now been released on bail.

The investigation into the incident continues and Detective Sergeant Cameron Mair, from Cheshire Police, confirmed a range of enquiries were taking place.

DS Mair, who is leading the investigation, added: "The incident occurred outside as the victim was walking along the Ashton Drive area of Frodsham at around 8.30pm on Saturday, November 12.

"Incidents such as this understandably cause a lot of concern among the local community.

"I would like to reassure residents that such incidents are extremely rare and we are doing all that we can to establish exactly what has taken place.

"A range of enquiries are ongoing.

"As part of our enquiries, we arrested a 13-year-old boy in relation to the incident and are urging anyone with any information or CCTV or dashcam footage that may aid the investigation to get in touch."
