RESIDENTS and organisations came together yesterday as Winsford paid its respects to those who have served their country and made the ultimate sacrifice.

The annual Remembrance Sunday parade assembled on the drive to Wyvern House council offices at 10.15am, led by the Salvation Army Band.

It then processed via The Drumber and Dene Drive to the town centre, through the side entrance to Fountain Court.

The service of remembrance itself began at 10.45am, led by the mayor’s chaplain Father Simon O’Connor of St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Winsford.

During the Act of Remembrance, Deputy Lieutenant of Cheshire, Sue Sellers, laid a wreath on behalf of His Majesty the King, and the town mayor and consort, Cllr Joanne Moorcroft and David Moorcroft, placed wreaths on the town war memorial and the Boer War memorial respectively.

Cllr Moorcroft said: "I'm proud that Winsford residents turned out in big numbers yesterday to remember those who served. On Remembrance Sunday and throughout the year, we will remember them.

"It was a privilege to attend yesterday's Remembrance Sunday parade and service. I am grateful to the armed forces, emergency services, scouts, guides, local schools and other organisations who supported the event.

"Thanks to junior mayor Freddie Sant, Deputy Lieutenant Susan Sellers, Father O'Connor, the Royal British Legion Winsford Branch, Winsford Town Council staff and all those involved in organising yesterday's event.”
