CHESHIRE'S police commissioner has said he has no plans to sell Middlewich Station and no intention of evicting the foodbank from the premises.

Fears have been spreading throughout the town that the foodbank was to be kicked out of the police station.

Middlewich Mayor Colin Coules told the recent town council meeting he had been assured by police and crime commissioner John Dwyer this was not the case.

“I’ve been in discussion with the police commissioner on behalf of the foodbank and I can confirm that the commissioner has made it very clear that the police station is not for sale, it’s not going to be sold off, and the foodbank is not going to be evicted from the station,” said Cllr Coules.

Cllr Vicky Perez said she would like to see that in writing because ‘up to this week we were still told we’d got to get out because they are adamant we cannot stay there’.

Cllr Coules said he would send Cllr Perez a copy of the letter from PCC John Dwyer confirming this.

The letter, which has now also been seen by the Local Democracy Reporting Service, does confirm there are no plans to evict the foodbank.

Northwich Guardian:

Mr Dwyer states in the letter: “I do not have any plans to sell Middlewich Police Station, nor do I have any plans to evict the foodbank out of the station.

"Whatever you may have heard, from whoever you may have heard it from, on this matter, is incorrect. I am seeking to arrange a face meeting with the foodbank to allay any concerns they may have.”

The foodbank, which is operated by the Trussell Trust, was originally based in the community church and moved into the police station just before the pandemic.

Cllr Carol Bulman told the LDRS after the meeting, there had been much talk since it moved about the police station being sold.

She said at one time there was talk of the foodbank being based at the town council offices.
