A SINGER-SONGWRITER from Middlewich has drawn inspiration from his hometown for his latest single.

Darren Roberts, who previously sang in a backing choir on Take That's 1995 UK tour, is releasing his original song 'Sunset on the Lime Beds' this week.

The 46-year-old has always been into music, but it was only during lockdown he found the time to devote to it.

And on Friday, November 4, 'Sunset on the Lime Beds' will be come his second track released on streaming services.

Darren said: "It feels great. Music is something I've always been into, but I never had the time until lockdown. Now I've been able to pursue a bit of a dream.

"I love Middlewich and there's plenty of places in the town which spark imagination for music."

For his latest song, Darren was not only inspired by Middlewich's popular dog-walking spot, but also sadness following the death of a friend's dog.

He added: "The idea for ‘Sunset on the Lime Beds’ came to me after a friend's dog was put to sleep.

"I remember him telling me about having a final night with the dog and taking it for a walk for the last time.

"I wondered how it must feel to take your dog for its final walk knowing it’ll be the last one, not wanting it to end, not wanting to go back home.

"Being a dog lover and having two of my own, the thought of this fills me with dread, so it was easy to emotionally connect with the subject.

"The lime beds are a popular dog walking spot and seemed like the perfect location for the song which tells the story of one man's final walk with man's best friend."

Darren has been writing and performing his own music and has played all occasions, from the Middlewich Folk and Boat Festival to smaller functions such as Middlewich Beer Festival and private parties.
