POLICE are investigating a spate of 10 suspected arson attacks in two days across Winsford.

Firefighters came under attack by a group of young people as they tackled a suspected arson attack on Bedford Rise.

Wheelie bins and pallets are believed to have been torched deliberately at 6.20pm on Sunday.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: ”Police attended the scene as firefighters were being harassed by a group of young people who were delaying the crew putting out the fire.”

Police were also called an hour later when a settee and rubbish were deliberately set on fire.

Firefighters were called to Bradbury Road at 7.30pm.

A hose reel jet was used by the crew to put out the blaze. Police were also in attendance.

Pallets and football nets were set on fire on Leyland Walk at 8.20pm.

Wheelie bins and rubbish were torched behind a shop on Cheviot Square at 8.50pm.

Bins and a sofa were found ablaze on Dart Walk at 9.17pm.

Two minutes later, recycling wheelie bins were set on fire in Dee Way in what is suspected to be deliberate ignition.

Another wheelie bin was set alight on the same road at 10.02pm A trolley containing rubbish was torched in Alt Walk half an hour later.

Firefighters used a hose reel jet to put out the flames.

The destruction continued into the early hours of Monday when firefighters found a blazing wheelie bin on Dart Walk, shortly after midnight.

Refuse was found well alight behind a property on Middlewich Road at 9.35am on Monday.

Firefighters used a hose reel jet and stack drag to put out the blaze.

Fire crews had already tackled three incidents across the town on Saturday.

Police attended many of these incidents.
