Organisers of Northwich’s Christmas Extravaganza say they are committed to making the event as special as ever this year, at a time when other authorities are pulling back on what they deliver.

This year’s event will take place on the Saturday, November 26, and will see the town centre filled with activities, including an ice rink, a family fun fair, a free game and selfie zone, Christmas markets and story time sessions.

As evening approaches, the annual school lantern parade will begin at Waitrose and finish on the steps of Barons Square, ahead of the light switch on and firework finale.

Northwich town mayor, Cllr Graham Emmett, said: “We know that people are facing significant challenges in the current economic climate, which is why it’s even more important to deliver something that will give people a fantastic day out without hitting their pockets.

“We want everyone to feel welcome in Northwich, so if you’re reading this, I would like to personally invite you to the best free to attend Christmas event in Cheshire.

“Northwich is a town that works hard to be inclusive, so please come and stop by and we hope to see you soon.”

Northwich BID board member, Louise Hough said: “We want local people to enjoy this Christmas, but to bear in mind, for the town to continue being at the centre of the vast number of annual events we need people to try and spend money locally.

“So, when you are planning on buying gifts this year or looking for somewhere to eat & drink, support your town centre businesses, independent and national chains alike, both are integral to the future of Northwich.

“Businesses in Northwich are committed to an inclusive town centre, and we hope that you feel that when you visit.

“Where possible, we have organised specific SEND sessions for our activities, BSL interpreters for our Story Time and switch on event and will have a safe space for anyone who just wants to step back from the day."
