A SWIMMING school is appealing for people to consider helping to teach children how to swim due to the continuing high demand for lessons.

Parents who could not take their children to swimming pools during the pandemic are now keen to get their children into the water, but many are facing long waiting lists for lessons.

Some waiting lists for weekend classes aimed ages four and above stretch to more than 300 people.

Now Puddle Ducks Mid Cheshire, which has been operating a waiting list for 14 months, hopes to solve the problem by recruiting people to teach their baby, pre-school, and swim academy teams.

Qualified swimming teachers are welcome to apply, but the school is willing to support unqualified applicants, who possess the right qualities, through the process of getting their qualification.

Rachel Bateson, owner of Puddle Ducks Mid Cheshire, said: “We were thrilled to see so many children returning to the pool, but we do have more who want to learn to swim with us.

“So, we are looking for enthusiastic and passionate people to train to become a swimming teacher, or swimming teachers looking to join our team.

“There is nothing that compares to seeing the look of joy on a child’s face when they are swimming, learning new skills whilst having so much fun!”

The school is holding a recruitment day at their Baron’s Quay pool on Saturday, October 22, 10am to noon, where anyone interested in the roles can find out what it takes to become a Puddle Ducks swimming teacher.

One thing Puddle Ducks swimming teachers have in common, says Rachel, is a true passion for children’s development and a love for the water.

They can expect to learn how to teach children to swim confidently, building their swimming skills as well as their understanding of the water and how to stay safe whilst enjoying it.

Some of the training costs, such as those leading to externally recognised qualifications, would be met by the trainees themselves.
