MIDDLEWICH residents will be going to the polls next month to vote for a new town councillor.

None of the main parties will be contesting the by-election in the Cledford ward.

The two candidates fighting for the town council seat are Helen Hignett-Clawson (Ind) and Anne Price (Ind).

The by-election has been called following the resignation of Laura Turner, who quit after just five months in post.

Mrs Turner, who was deputy mayor during that short period, is the sixth councillor to quit Middlewich Town Council in just over a year.

Gareth Williams resigned at the end of March and  Dr Peter Hirst and Pauline Hickey quit in February.

David Latham resigned in October of last year and the previous month Chris Jones quit.

The by-election will take place on Thursday, November 10, and polling stations will be open between 7am and 10pm.
