FIREFIGHTERS were called to a blaze in an abandoned building in Northwich.

Three fire engines from Northwich and Winsford were dispatched to the scene in Clifton Drive at 7.56pm.

Upon arrival they found the fire to be spreading across the first floor of the partially demolished building including one room in particular that was heavily in flames.

The firefighters gained access to a safe area and using a main jet and a horse reel, managed to extinguish the fire.

Due to the delicate structure of the building, the crews had to work from a safe distance away.Northwich Guardian: An investigation into how the fire started will now be carried out.An investigation into how the fire started will now be carried out. (Image: Newsquest)

They used a thermal imaging camera to check the temperature of the timber in the building.

While also having to use an aerial ladder platform to remove tiles from the roof to gain access to areas from above the building and extinguish any further 'hot spots'.

The fire crew were in attendance of the scene for approximately three and a half hours.

An investigation will now be carried out to establish the cause of the fire.
