WINNINGTON Park Hockey Club’s women’s teams are leading the way at the start of the 2022/23 season.

Both sides are currently enjoying 100 percent records.

The firsts achieved a 1-0 success in a tough match against Neston, with Shandy Moloney-Pugh netting the winner.

Some strong core defence from Lauren Miller and Ellie Capstick combined with the midfield, who worked tirelessly, created multiple chances for the forwards but it remained 0-0 at the break.

Midway through the second half, forward Jaz Barlow intercepted the ball and drove hard before slipping a pass to Moloney-Pugh who found the back of the net.

It was time for Park to defend hard and keep the lead.

Some amazing saves came, not only from star keeper Helen Hogben, but also goal line blocks from Sarah Kinder and Capstick kept Winnington’s lead intact.

The seconds ran away with things at Golborne, with the 8-1 triumph leaving the side with nine points from the first three games of the season.

Constant pressure from early on paid off with a first goal from Jade Jackman.

The goals then kept flowing with Eileen Miller scoring twice and Jackman adding her second for a 4-0 interval lead.

After a slow star slow to the second half the goals flowed again.

Izzy Warrener notched for the third week in a row and player-of-the-match Eleanor Senior got on the score sheet.

A short corner strike from Em Taylor saw Lily Knight finish in the corner of the net.

The men’s firsts achieved their first win on the season against Bowdon’s thirds in a match controlled by Park.

Man-of-the-match Nathan Gee bulged the net for the first time this season with strikes in each half.

Captain Joe Corless almost added a third but it was not to be.

Winnington Park men’s seconds incredible unbeaten run came to an end when they went down 5-1 to Macclesfield, their first loss in 23 games.

Mark Leigh was the solitary goal scorer for a below-par Park who found a strong Macclesfield side too much to handle on the day.

Dec Lamb was named man of the match.

The men’s thirds lost 3-0 to an in-form Golborne, who are topping the table early doors.

Jamie Bell was Park’s man of the match after pulling off a string of saves and keeping the scoreline down.

The Badgers were defeated 4-0 at home to a strong Preston side.

Oisín Moloney-Pugh was awarded the man-of-the-match honour.

A creditable 1-1 draw was the outcome of the under 13s Beavers’ excursion to Chester.

Declyn Munday scored Winnington’s goal.
