TIKTOK sensation Maddy Dann helped Northwich Sapphires’ first team start the North West Regional Championship One League in fine style on Saturday.

They won 47-37 at Warrington but the first quarter was neck and neck and finished 11-11.

Goal-shooter Dann, who is closing in on one million followers on the social media platform, got her eye in early, supported by goal-attack Charlotte Sellars.

The return of the defensive duo Carly Grindrod (GK) and Jaz Barlow (GD) created the opportunity for interceptions and turnovers which enabled Northwich to storm ahead in the second quarter.

Warrington didn’t give up easy and as the game turned more physical it was the composure from recent U17 Loughborough Lightening academy player Rachel Middlebrook that kept the game calm.

Fresh legs from Hannah Godfrey ensured the defence were disciplined with numerous touches forcing errors from Warrington.

Sapphires led at half time but Warrington brought it back to a three-goal difference. However Northwich were determined to keep the lead. Lydia Patterson fed into the circle with confidence to Dann who was consistent with her shooting to secure the win.

Next regional game: October 22, home v Ribble Valley.
