A WOMEN'S mental health and wellbeing charity marked International Day of the Girl 2022 with a mini conference on issues ‘that matter most to the young women of Cheshire.’

Founded by Winsford-born Kate Blakemore, Motherwell Cheshire’s vision is ‘that women and girls are able to meet the challenges in their lives and access support, education and advocacy whenever they need it, in order to fulfil their potential'.

The conference, hosted by Cheshire College South and West Crewe campus today, Tuesday, October 11, was set to begin with the presentation ‘Making Space for Girls,’ about a project which sees Motherwell Cheshire volunteers working with Crewe Town Council and the London School of Economics to assess how public spaces can be improved to accommodate young women.

Other presentations included ‘Empowering Groups in Schools’ from students of Sandbach High School and ‘Young Women in Sport’ from some of Cheshire’s rising stars in women’s football.

The day ended with an overview of Motherwell Cheshire’s Inspire Project, which aims to break down the barriers girls face on a daily basis, including an overview of what it has achieved so far and what the plans are for the future.

Kate Blakemore said: “This is our opportunity to celebrate a special day whilst showcasing the great work of the Inspire Project.

“Our Inspire Project is named to ‘Inspire’ every young woman that we support, empowering young women to have a voice."
