SCOUT Troops from across Northwich and Winsford climbed to new heights as they reached the summit of Mount Snowdon.

Mid Cheshire Scouts took on the challenge of climbing Snowdon along the Rhyd Ddu Path - an ascent of 890 metres, taking a total of seven hours to complete.

Eight Scout troops from across the district took part, including 1st Antrobus and Comberbach, 1st Cuddington and Sandiway, 1st Darnall, 1st Davenham, 1st Hartford, 1st Over St Johns, St Wilfrids, and 1st Whitegate.

Ali Comline, of the District Climbing and Hill Walking Scout Active Support Unit (SASU), said: “The purpose of the SASU is to see scouts enjoying amazing experiences, which they would not be able to do without the unit.

“We really enjoyed running the activity for them.

“Big thanks to all the leaders who gave up their time to help as well.”

Mid Cheshire Scouts district commissioner, Darren Gorst said: “This is what scouting is all about.

“We had a fantastic turnout and were delighted to see each and every scout so proud of themselves for reaching the summit.

“It was no mean feat!”

Philip Appelbe, a Scout at 1st Hartford Scouts, said: “When the leaders first told us about the hike up Snowdon we were all a bit nervous, as it seemed a very long way and very high up!

“Reaching the top was a very proud moment for us all.”

With the success of this activity, Mid Cheshire Scouts are already planning their challenge for 2023.
