ONE family’s journey renovating a 200-year-old property in Hartford is being featured on TV this week.

Charlotte Hilditch and partner Matthew Zaman will appear on Channel Four’s Renovation Nation – a series which follows renovators across the country as they tackle period properties and turn them into dream homes.

Charlotte and Matthew began their renovation adventure two years ago.

“We bought the property in 2020 during the pandemic, we were living up in Manchester at the time,” Charlotte said, who explained how they kept seeing the period property on Rightmove.

“We were just drawn to this house,” she added.

“We won it at auction, but we hadn’t viewed it in depth yet and kind of just jumped into the unknown.

“Nothing could prepare us for how much of a project it was going to be.”

The couple lived in the house for a year and then started refurbishing it.

They decided to document everything on an Instagram page (@the.hartfordhouse) so they could look back on how far they had come.

But little did they know their account would catch the attention of producers at Channel Four, who contacted them for a new TV programme starring like-minded people across the UK wanting to transform period properties.

Charlotte said: “We started filming in February this year and they followed us to the end of June.

“The show will track us across three rooms and follow our progress.

“It was really surreal having the cameras there, but you do get used to it.

“We really enjoyed it, it’s just been really hard to not say anything until now!”

Charlotte and Matthew’s episode aired at 4pm today, Tuesday, October 4, and will continue this week.
