FOUR-YEAR-OLD Henry Edwards is celebrating after growing an award-winning 'polar bear' pumpkin.
The youngster, who attends Over St John’s Primary School in Winsford, took the 'Best in Show' award at the Over Allotment Society's annual prizegiving.
Ably assisted by mum Rebecca Edwards, Henry cultivated a fine pumpkin which caught the eye of competition judge Joanne Moorcroft, the Winsford mayor.
Rebecca said: “It’s called a polar bear pumpkin because it’s so white.
"It’s the first time we have grown one, so we were so pleased we managed to put up a best in show.”
Henry and Rebecca have been growing their own vegetables at Over Allotments for three years.
Despite this Rebecca, who is an Over Allotment Society committee member, took home the ‘worst in show’ prize at the same competition with some peas she had cunningly frozen.
“I thought I would box clever," she added.
“No-one puts peas into the show because they are all done and dusted by June.
“I wrapped mine up very carefully and put them in the freezer until August.
“I thought ‘I’m in with a chance here. Sadly, I was wrong."
